Character NAME: Magical Device Nemo
Canon & MEDIUM: Code Geass: Nightmare of Nunnally (Manga)
Canon PULL-POINT: The end of chapter 16, after Nunnally dissolves their contract.
Character AGE: Approximately 14-15.
Character ABILITIES: As a “quantum being”, Nemo has a specific range of abilities. These are:

- Precognition, or the ability to see the future. She can only do this when directly trying to, and it is limited to where her focus is aimed. For example, when she is trying to keep up with a super-fast enemy pilot, she focuses her ability on the pilot’s movements. This can allow for her blind spot to be taken advantage of, and she can easily be lured into a trap. She cannot discern motive or identity with it, unless that is revealed to her in conventional ways in the immediate future she is looking at.
- The ability to sense negative emotions in humans, in order to judge their suitability as a contractor, as her contracts are forged on feelings of wrath and loss.
- The ability to possess the body of her contractor, who for most of her canon is Nunnally vi Britannia. By doing this, she grants Nunnally’s paralyzed legs new life, and they can share thoughts and memories with one another.
- She can summon a Knightmare Frame (aka a human-shaped and piloted robot) known as the Mark Nemo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knightmare_Frame#Mark_Nemo) from within her own body using an ability known as a “quantum shift”. It is approximately 15-20 feet tall.
- The ability to mimic the appearance of others, though her default forms are either her original doll form or her contractor’s image. She cannot do this at will; it comes as an effect of whether she has a contract at the time or not. If she has the chance to take human form, she will choose to do so over her doll form the majority of the time.
- Should she enter a temporary “deal” with someone, she can lend them similar powers as her contractor, including summoning a custom Knightmare Frame for them.

Character HISTORY: For the most part, Code Geass is similar to the world in which we live, save for the majority of it being ruled by the Holy Britannian Empire . The territories under the rule of this empire are rarely treated fairly, and they often experiment on and segregate the original people living in these places they take control of. They also hold a standard to themselves and to the people they rule: the strong live, and the weak die. This results in one of the major themes of the series: terrorism in order for the native people of these lands to gain political freedom for themselves. (Also, there is magic and mechs, but those come later.)

At some point in time, Britannia got hold of the immortal “witch” known as C.C., who has lived since the time of Joan of Arc. Experiments were conducted in order to try and obtain the secret of the witch’s undying life, mostly by attempting to injecting her DNA into other people and trying to create a new being with entirely separate from C.C. The being created was not humanoid, but instead, was born as a small, doll-like creature that can occasionally grow arms as needed. This being had a will of its own, but was still subservient to the witch herself. The doll was named “Magical Device Nemo”.

In Area Eleven, formerly known as Japan, the experiments are forcibly called to a halt as Nemo and C.C. are taken by a Japanese rebel, thinking their container was full of toxic gas instead of a pair of magical beings. He crashes the truck carrying them in a ghetto, where a young man by the name of Lelouch (a former prince of Britannia, son of the current emperor , who is living in hiding) discovers C.C. and Nemo. The government officials in charge of the C.C. experiments realize there is no change to keep this secret if anyone escapes alive from the scene, and so they immediately set out to bomb it off the map. Lelouch and C.C. forge a contract moments before the bomb goes off, which saves his life by merging his life self with C.C. At the same time, C.C. and Lelouch task Nemo with her own mission: protecting Lelouch’s younger sister Nunnally, also in hiding, who is blind and paralyzed from the waist down.
Nunally, having heard of the bombing on the news and knowing Lelouch had been taking a shortcut home through that ghetto, sets off on her own to search for him. C.C. and Lelouch are long gone by then, but Nemo remains, and meets the princess personally. She sense Nunnally’s anger and sorrow at losing not only her mother years before in an assassination attempt, her own eyes and legs in the same attack, but now possibly her brother as well. Nemo offers Nunnally a chance at magical power to get revenge, in return for feeing Nemo her negative emotions so that Nemo can evolve out of her doll state. Nunnally accepts, and in an instant, Nemo possesses Nunnally’s body and summons the Mark Nemo Knightmare (a fighting machine much like a giant robot). Before long, the officials who bombed the ghetto re-emerge, trying to subdue the new Knightmare that has appeared.

Nemo and Nunnally, fueled by anger, use their combined power to control their machine and look into the future to see enemy attacks and avoid them before they happen. They make short work of the enemy, but they allow the leader, one of the older princes and one of Nunnally’s siblings, to live out of the desire not to shed more blood. They escape from the battlefield, and separate into two beings again. When Nunnally tries to deny what happened, Nemo is quick to correct her and confirm it was real, and that she is there to be “Princess Nunnally’s Knight”. Soon after, the prince which they spared is killed by the combined Lelouch and C.C., now known as “Zero”. As a result of an imperial prince’s murder, a new princess named Cornelia comes to govern Area Eleven, with a desire to punish Zero and discover the identity of the pilot of Mark Nemo.

Nunnally continues to live an ordinary school life during this time. Though everyone believes otherwise, Nemo assures Nunnally that Lelouch isn’t dead. She doesn’t explain why she knows this, but she does explain that she has taken on Nunnally’s form because she is feeding on her emotions and has evolved to a higher state of being because of them. She is invisible to everyone but Nunnally in this state, save for when she possesses Nunnally’s body. This way, they are able to work together without anyone knowing what they are up to. During this time, Nemo watches Nunnally’s friends, one of whom sticks out: an incredibly fast girl named Alice, who protects the princess in more subtle ways, which helps to hide Nemo’s more violent presence.
Alice, Nunnally and many of Lelouch’s school friends take a trip together in order to get Nunnally’s mind off of her missing brother. It just happens to be at a major political talk’s event, which is quickly hijacked by Japanese rebels. It isn’t long before Britannians are made examples of via firing squad, to make a point to the army on their way to help. One of the commanders of the rebels had met Nunnally before she had gone into hiding, and recognizes her face. She is separated from the other hostages in order to use her as a bargaining tool. Nunnally refuses to help, having been declared dead years ago by the empire and seeing herself as no use to such a plan, and Nemo agrees, coaching Nunnally to stand her ground. The two of them are quickly forced to change their minds, as Alice’s life is threatened. Despite their agreement, however, the rebels still shoot Alice, and the negative emotions in response to this give Nemo the power to summon their Knightmare again.

Alice manages to survive, due to having C.C.’s DNA injected in her some time before and being an immortality experiment herself. Nearby, Alice’s team of other witch experiment subjects stand by with the Britannian army, led by Princess Cornelia, waiting for their chance to invade. When Alice arrives, they move in, letting Alice take point in order to take advantage of her magical speed.

In the meantime, Nunnally and Nemo fight for control, as Nunnally doesn’t want to kill despite Nemo’s control over her anger, and they are forced to agree on only destroying the machines and leaving the humans themselves alone. Alice and Mark Nemo get into a scuffle in the fight, unable to hear one another’s voice or see each other’s faces to know who it actually is they’re fighting. During their fight, a bomb goes off, and forces both of them to retreat.

Taking advantage of the confusion, Zero manipulates the situation so that the hostages can escape safely, and the army is forced into retreat, all while making a name for his new rebel force, the Black Knights, who swear to protect the weak and downtrodden.

In the aftermath of the battle, Alice and Nunnally are minorly wounded, but mostly unharmed and remain unaware of each other’s role in the fight. Alice soon discovers Nunnally’s identity as a princess, anyway, but keeps her secret, in order to protect their friendship. At the same time, Nunnally’s childhood friend, Suzaku, arrives in Japan as a knight for one of the Britannian Empire’s princesses, Euphemia. He is one of the few people who knows that Lelouch was in the bombed ghetto and that is why he is missing, which takes a burden off of Nunnally’s shoulders.

In order to capture Zero, Cornelia sets a trap destroying yet another ghetto. She is protected by Suzaku and Alice as her army’s back-ups. Despite the danger, Nemo and Nunnally decide to go anyway, in order to stop the fighting that may involve innocent lives. When the battle begins, Nemo is directly opposed to both sides, shutting down and destroying units of every make in order to prevent conflict. Alice leaps into the battle in order to attack Nemo, but the two are still evenly matched. However, Alice succeeds in making Nemo’s attention stay focused on her, so that her team can lead Nemo into a trap that paralyzing their Knightmare. It takes significant effort, but she eventually manages to escape the trap before she can be killed, and the battle rages on. Zero interrupts their battle, which knocks Nunnally unconscious as Nemo escapes. Zero confronts Nemo with C.C.’s face, demanding to know why Nunnally was on the battlefield at all, when it is Nemo’s role to protect her. Nemo rages and declares that it was both her and Nunnally’s wish to stop the fighting, though for different reasons. Zero replies that Nunnally controls Nemo more than Nemo acts independently, and so her true nature as a copy hasn’t changed.

After the battle, Nunnally realizes that Zero might be Lelouch, but she doesn’t fully understand who C.C. is or what happened. Nemo has no answers for her, beyond declaring that what happened was real and that she is still Nunnally’s knight. Nunnally goes to the place where she met Nemo, and demands the truth. Nemo explains about her own origins as an experiment, and Lelouch and C.C.’s contract. They are interrupted by a former experimental subject named Mao, however, who needs Nemo to repair her own body, which is rotting away due to the infusion of C.C.’s cells. They are attacked, but Nemo cannot fight against Mao’s power, which calls to mind memories of the past. With Nunnally forcibly reliving her happy summer with her brother and Suzaku, Nemo is shut out and weakened. She is forced to allow Zero to control her for a while, and her body changes to match their shapes, still attached to Nunnally’s body. This power frightens Mao enough to send her running right to Alice, who has been tasked with destroying her. Mao does not live past this encounter, as her body reaches its breaking point and dissolves. Alice helps Nunnally home, thinking she was targeted for being a Britannian princess instead of the host of C.C.’s copy.

Suzaku comes to visit Nunnally again soon after, and Nemo uses her power to see his future. She realizes the next major battle will be occurring soon, assesses the location, and warns Nunnally. Lelouch will almost certainly appear on that battlefield, and they agree to seek him out there. During the battle, Nemo interrupts the fight between Zero and Suzaku. As Nemo forces herself in to protect Zero, Suzaku announces himself by name as a knight, which only feeds her anger. As she tries to destroy his machine, Alice interrupts their battle as well, and their powers resonate. They realize who is piloting the enemy machines, and the shock forces Alice out of her Knightmare. Nemo feeds on Nunnally’s rage at being betrayed this way, and prepares to kill her. Nunnally refuses to believe that is really the case, however, forcibly terminates their contract to protect Alice. This reduces Nemo to only a doll again, and leaves Nunnally defenseless without Mark Nemo.

Character PERSONALITY: Nemo is a being born of negative emotions. Despite this, she is fully capable of feeling and thinking for herself, even when they force her to be at odds with who she is feeding off of.

It is in Nemo’s nature to be aggressive and combative, and it is her instinctual reaction to most problems. She turns to violence at the first sign of trouble, and has little desire to try and resolve things peacefully. When Nunnally is thrown from her wheelchair by schoolyard bullies, she very nearly summons a giant mech just to protect her and punish the ones responsible. She has little sense of moderation, and she can come out in full-force at any time, given the right incentive. This often causes a rift between herself and Nunnally, who is much more of a pacifist than Nemo.

Her way of speaking can be very rude, even snarky at times. She laughingly tells Nunnally to let the girls bullying her know that she is a princess of the empire to scare them off, knowing that they only care about status. Even when directly in danger in a hostage situation, Nemo mouths-off where no one can really hear about not backing down to those who condescend to Nunnally just for being a child.

Along with speaking rudely, she has an air confidence that is obvious at first glance, and you could almost call her cocky. She has no doubt that she is usually right and almost always thinks she’ll win when it comes to a fight, save for when the tables are suddenly turned or she’s facing C.C. Part of this comes from her ability to see most events coming, but her pride is definitely something unique to herself that remains even when she’s in trouble.

She has two main goals. The first is protecting Nunnally as her contractor, even to the point that Nunnally abandons her and their contract, she continues to search for ways to protect Nunnally while respecting her wish to work separately. She desperately wishes to be her own person in order to escape C.C., but she puts Nunnally before even that desire. She’s perfectly willing to kill a friend to protect the two of them, even though it hurts not only herself but Nunnally. Her attempts to be a “knight” are brutal and harsh, but she has the best interests of Nunnally at heart, with whom she shares a significant amount of emotion.

Her second goal is gaining enough power to live on her own as her own existence. She is afraid of the source of her DNA, but more than that, she resents the fact that she is under someone else’s command without her consent. She is a fiercely independent person, though she is forced to rely on others for most everything. She doesn’t resent reliance, however, because she usually offers something in return and makes it into a partnership.

On the whole, Nemo is not a very nice person and isn’t very easy to get along with. She means well and is very good at compromising on all but protecting what’s important. And what else could you want from a knight?

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: As Nemo’s original body is that of a small, mud-doll looking figure, she’ll choose a humanoid form that she can manipulate at will as her weapon, in order to function better as a fighter and fit in easier around Exsilium. This body will start out like an ordinary human body, but as time passes, she’ll be able to make it stronger and faster. With practice, she’ll be able to take heavy hits from bullets and blades directly without dying.

Character INVENTORY: Nemo has no personal items of her own, the only thing she’ll be bringing aside from herself is the mech she can create from inside of herself, which will stay in atomized pieces out of sight until she needs it.

First PERSON: [A blond girl with a smiling face appears on screen, eyes narrowed at the camera. The effect comes off somewhat predatory, like a wildcat watching rodents. Nemo isn’t very good at projecting a kind and friendly air, but she knows trying will win her more points than just yelling at everyone.]

Hey, is everyone listening?

I have an offer for anyone who can cough up some information on this place. Specifically, I want everything you have on how they have people from different timelines here, and how they can even modify human bodies to be weapons.

[Her voice is pretty serious, since she really doesn’t care to hear from anyone who can’t help and wants that to be obvious. But to get anyone with what she wants to answer, there must be something proposed as a trade.]

I can give you anything you want, in return. Power, information, money—anything. I won’t say how, but I can get just about anything here, if you really want it. So, how about a deal? If your information is good, we can trade.

Think about it, alright? My word is good.

[With a short nod, the feed cuts off.]

Third PERSON: Here and here at the testdrive meme!
